The War Memorial Central Pavilion - Hot water system upgrade

Posted November 10, 2025

Project Overview

The War Memorial Central Pavilion, a key facility supporting local football activities, required a critical upgrade to its hot water system.

The existing water heaters were oversized, obsolete, and no longer fit for purpose. To improve efficiency and reliability, the decision was made to install two new Heatrae Sadia Megaflo 400-litre cylinders tailored to the pavilion’s actual usage needs.

Scope of Works

• Removal of Existing Units - The original water heaters were significantly oversized and outdated. These were carefully decommissioned and removed to make way for a more efficient solution.

• Installation of New Cylinders - Two Heatrae Sadia Megaflo 400-litre water heaters were installed to serve the pavilion, including the heavily used shower rooms for football teams. The new design was based on a revised assessment of demand, ensuring optimal performance without excess capacity.

• Access and Handling - Due to the size and weight of the cylinders, a Genie lift was used to safely raise and lower the units into position, ensuring compliance with manual handling and safety standards.

• Pipework Replacement and Chlorination - All associated pipework was replaced to suit the new configuration. Following installation, the system underwent full chlorination to meet hygiene and water safety standards.

• Improved Accessibility - A new access hatch was installed to facilitate future maintenance and inspections, improving long-term serviceability and reducing disruption for future works.

Outcome

The project was completed successfully with minimal disruption to pavilion operations. The new system now provides reliable hot water tailored to actual usage, improving energy efficiency and reducing maintenance demands. The inclusion of a new access hatch ensures the site is better prepared for future servicing needs.
